Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

1. Tell us about your collection for One. (What was your concept or inspiration?)

I’ve created a collection of bow ties, each one constructed from two eclectic, coordinating pieces of found fabric. Because of these constraints, each tie is completely unique.

2. Can you describe your personal style? Is it reflected in your collection at all? (If not, how is it different?)

I dress (first) to be comfortable and (second) to show respect for my surroundings and for others. I do not make things I would not enjoy wearing myself.

3. Do you find that your body of work typically centers around a certain theme or aesthetic? If so, why do you think that is?

I strive to create objects that are well-crafted and that eschew trendiness.

4. Describe your design aesthetic in 3 words.

enduring / urbane / quixotic

5. What attracted you to submit work for One? What attracts you to fashion?

I mostly like to make things for myself. On rare occasions, I enjoy making things for other people. This is one of those latter times. I love men’s fashion because of its uncanny ability to be simultaneously rooted in history and completely fresh.

Oh, hey, it’s me! People from my school are doing something cool and I made some ties for them. Fun for the end of the semester!
