Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (27 sep 2013)

  • Spent time in Jewelry working on a fused chain made from fine silver. Melted a bunch of silver wire.
  • Had a pretty fun tuesday afternoon despite having a really bad head cold. Well, it started out fun. By 4pm I was feeling really terrible and left early so I could go home and sleep.
  • Wednesday morning in Branding and market development: a total nightmare. Frustration with curriculum and teacher. An ongoing source of aggravation.
  • Helped Carolyn with her business cards during my wednesday lunch break. It is easy to impress fashion majors with basic graphic design skills.
  • Turned in a short essay in History of Cinema (I wrote about D.W. Griffith’s The Birth of a Nation), then watched Hinchcock’s Rear Window. (Criminally fun for technically being class.)
  • Thursday morning: tried bezel-setting a big rose quartz in a bronze ring I’d cast; experienced lots of heartache trying to deal with the tough, annoying bronze and the easily-breakable quartz. Worked right through my lunch break.
  • Had Senior Ad on the quad, which was completely lovely until it got too hot in the sun, at which point several of us worked in the Crane Café, where we ran into Bob. He said hello to me and gave me and my friends (and Mr. Mohr) pieces of a chocolate bar; then he walked off into the metaphorical sunset. The man is a class act.
  • Concluded a blissful thursday afternoon with Portfolio class, which began with dancing and ended with another long everybody-gather-around-one-table crit.
  • Met up with my Branding classmates friday morning at CCAD’s MindMarket to present creative strategies to our client. We didn’t turf out; that’s all I’ll say about that.
