Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (21 feb 2014)

After a wonderful weekend at camp, I had a hard time getting back into school. Thankfully, motion graphics was as laid back as always—I made an animated gif of Jim Johnson. Danielle showed me some cool eyeglasses she found, and I made John wear them for a photo.

Tuesday was great. After a close call in traffic, I spent all of jewelry carving wax, which is as pleasant as fabricating sheet metal is aggravating. None of the usual crowd showed up for friendship lunch, but I met up with Dana and we spent my break looking at stuff in school galleries. After that, I went to senior ad. Tay, Jen, and I met up with Jason to record a voiceover for a video we are making. He did a marvelous job. In History of 2-d, I got back the test which I hadn’t studied for. I needn’t have worried about it at all…

Motion graphics was cancelled on wednesday, but it was just as well. I had a lunch meeting with Esther Hall, Columbus fashion design luminary, to get some advice for my thesis, then worked on a bunch of freelance stuff.

I did more wax carving on thursday morning, then spent my lunch break in the CCAD Archives office talking to Leah, the woman in charge of it all, who I think will prove to be a very helpful resource.

For the first hour of senior ad, we were joined by Micah White, “visiting scholar” and “activist”, who spoke casually on a broad range of things, including Occupy Wall Street, the nature of truth, how “everyone knows deep down that our planet is dying”, how authenticity in advertising matters more than honesty, and a bunch of other utter nonsense. I was not impressed and was glad when he left. After a quick photo-op with Theresa and Mohr, I got back to work with Tay and Jen on our One Show project.
