“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (6 dec 2013)

  • I spent all of tuesday morning’s jewelry class participating in long-winded, open-ended fine art critiques—a thing I am not accustomed to and do not enjoy.
  • Went crazy trying to prepare my work to submit to the American Advertising Awards. Thankfully, Mr. Lutz left very detailed notes. Printing and organizing documents consumed most of Senior Ad.
  • For my last class of tuesday, industry professionals visited our Portfolio class to review our books. I got some good advice from Aschenbrand, which was a great, exciting thing.
  • Wednesday was long: I started out with Brand and Market Development: uneventful, long, dull. Then, I did a little homework in the library during my lunch break, followed by History of Cinema, where we watched The Hurt Locker. I did not enjoy the film, but this may be due to the fact that I had a rat’s nest of yarn on my lap which I was trying to untangle in the dark auditorium.
  • After Cinema, I headed to the jewelry lab and worked on my tea infuser project for a few hours, injuring myself with a burr in the process. At least the first aid kit had bandages this time…
  • I finished out wednesday with yet another portfolio review thing at 7pm. Illustration and photo majors were supposed to join us and mingle, but very few of them showed up, so I ended up hanging out with friends.
  • Thursday morning in jewelry, I participated in a few more critiques, then just continued to work on my final project and chatted with friends.
  • Went sheet music shopping during my lunch break, then had a short Senior Ad class.
  • Drove back down to school at 9:30pm to hear Jeremy Slagle speak to the Christian group on campus. Didn’t get home until after midnight. This week, man!
  • Friday, I wore pyjamas to school, because, at this point, why not? It was a raucous time.

What I did this week (3 may 2013)

  • Turned in my final package design project, which I spent all of three weeks on. Mr. Hazlerig gave us an insta-grade™ and I got an A, so I’m not complaining.
  • Did some homework at a table with Colleen, whom I hadn’t seen in ages!
  • Had friendship lunch at the Hills. It was just me and Ian this week; some of the others were at a lecture about Family Guy, which I did not attend.
  • Had a White Castle-themed meltdown with my team on tuesday morning.
  • Made actual in-class progress on a project in Advanced Type. There must be something in the air this time of year.
  • Took my “final exam” in Draping, for which I had to drape and create a pattern by looking at an illustration. I haven’t got my grade back yet, but I’m sure I did poorly.
  • Forgot to take a crucial piece of draping homework with me, causing me much duress.
  • Used my charisma at the CCAD library to access their button-making machine (for White Castle purposes, of course).
  • Finally heard back from Cheryl Steele about the mysterious lost draping homework. Had to invade a senior fashion crit to get my work back. On the plus side, Cheryl Steele texted me, which was practically on my bucket list.
  • Got annoyed at the warm weather all week.

What I did this week (7 dec 2012)

  • Had a nice independent study meeting with Mr. Lutz. After we finished, we decided not to meet next week. So I’m all done!
  • Spent time in the CCAD library helping Amanda impose booklet pages, which was way harder than it should have been!
  • Wore a snowflake shirt and red corduroy waistcoat on monday and had people say “you look so Christmasey!” to me all day.
  • Attended my very last marketing class. Good freaking riddance!
  • Took a very unhealthy lunch to Copywriting on tuesday, which included a bottle of Yoo-hoo and Little Debbie Christmas Cakes. Highly necessary at this time of year.
  • Started working on my third and final major jewelry project, which is due really soon.
  • Got a surprisingly large amount of work done in my thursday morning ad class. The pressure is getting to me!
  • Hung out with Mr. Burleigh in thursday’s jewelry class. He was there pretty much the whole time killing time and giving advice. Tons of fun.
  • Drove back to school to hear Mr. Burleigh speak to the Christian group, Sanctuary. It was a very good, encouraging time.

What I did this week (9 dec 2011)

  • Participated in one last crit for my figure drawing class; could have used greater self-control.
  • Had a mini-meltdown in my Worst Class of the Week, mostly because my inept teacher reprimanded me for using a gradient fill instead of two shapes, a blend, and a clipping mask. I am still justly furious.
  • Kept my photo class at bay while we waited a half hour for teacher to show up. Not really. But seriously, yes.
  • Got 100% on my photo final by completely honest means, exempting me from a bunch of extra work.
  • Had a portrait photography crit, during which we hilariously cut Jason short by prematurely applauding.
  • Started painting a portrait in acrylics that actually looks good, which was a huge surprise.
  • Did very well on my last science quiz. (Thank goodness!)
  • Had my photo taken.
  • Got my team’s boards printed, mounted, and wrapped on thursday afternoon, which is a new personal record.
