I’ve just got back home from Camp Koinonia, where I spent the weekend at a winter retreat with about thirty kids and a bunch of good friends. We played games in the snow, studied the Bible, and sang songs at the top of our lungs. Everything was beautiful—though I was only gone for about 48 hours, my mind has been re-oriented and I’m ready to back to the real world with a renewed vigor. Camp is one of the greatest things ever.
Monday night (3 feb 2014), I saw the Hold Steady play a show at A&R Music Bar. It was a very wild, loud, energetic show—just exactly what I expected. Craig Finn went guitar-less most of the evening (“I made a new year’s resolution to stop fake-playing-guitar so much”) and repeatedly attempted to imitate Paul Stanley’s stage banter. There were many good songs. I was particularly happy to hear Rock Problems and Stuck Between Stations. Besides the great music, I had a chance to meet up with Blair, the dude who ridiculed me online a few years ago and since then has become a good internet friend, as well as a bunch of other random Columbus music-scene folks. Tons of fun.
Day 69: tue, 4 feb 2014. Friendship lunch: after all these years, it’s still a thing.
Day 67: wed, 30 jan 2014. First: my jewelry classmates go crazy with desire after our teacher brings free, empty cardboard boxes into class—go figure. Later: conducting a team meeting with Tay and Jen and as much sunlight as possible.
Look at these cool things! My great great friend Theresa was portraits of me last month and look—I finally got them and am so pleased with the results. The plan is to autograph these with a silver sharpie and give them away to potential employers… so we’ll see how that goes…
