Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

Tag this is the fourth week of the semester already!

What I did this week (8 feb 2013)

  • Experimented with resin casting in Package Design. I’m designing packaging for a line of solid perfume centered around molds taken from an ornate Victorian doorknob.
  • Had a particularly satisfying experience in the school cafeteria this monday. The special, gumbo, wasn’t spicy enough, but even so there were lots of good things! Thanks for not being terrible, cafeteria!
  • Received a perfect score on my Draping homework (I made five bodices, all shaped using different dart and gather placements). In class we worked on draping a basic skirt! I’m actually having fun making women’s clothing—it’s a miracle!
  • Got into quite a nice groove at OhioHealth. The key to doing the 10-hour work day successfully is taking a very late lunch.
  • Started organizing some portfolio pieces and came to a startling revelation.
  • Received a fantastically-cute, two-months-late Christmas photo from Amanda with a very sweet message on the back. (#bffs)
  • Killed time in Burleigh’s class while we were supposed to be working on our portfolio layouts. Spent a lot of time in the classroom next door talking to John.
  • Listened to a non-creative CCAD bureaucrat give a presentation in which she repeatedly used the word “charrette”, causing me to convulse on the floor.
  • For my Advanced type class, I set and printed a pangram of my new alphabet, a brushy, midcentury sans-serif caps.
  • Milled around and wrote comments on other people’s projects in Advanced type while our teacher skipped out of class to go to a meeting (true story, apparently?). Then I participated in a rare Advanced Type knit-n-crit, during which Amanda and I whispered about classmates we’d like to befriend.
