Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (4 oct 2013)

  • Had an action-packed week in jewelry. Worked on weaving a fine silver chain and fabricating its clasp, polishing and finishing cast rings, squeezing things in the hydraulic press, and patinating all the things.
  • Attempted to concentrate on big nonprofit project, due next tuesday. Had trouble concentrating.
  • Asked for and received many tips on making delicious bloody marys.
  • Got free breakfast in class on wednesday morning. But who buys bagels without cream cheese?
  • Ate lunch with Amanda in the jewelry lab, by which I mean: Amanda and I met in the jewelry lab where she worked in Photoshop and I loudly filed metal and neither of us ate any food because eating is not allowed in the jewelry lab.
  • Watched avant-garde non-American 1960s films in History of Cinema.
  • Lots more time and occasional aggravation in the jewelry lab. While putting the finishing touches on my bronze/rose quartz ring, wore a hole straight through the bezel.
  • Had good talks and fun times with friends. Helped distress posters by sitting on them. Got kinda annoyed at Squarespace’s total world domination.
  • Went on a minor adventure with Julia and discovered that the Interior Design students are hoarding maracas.
  • Friday morning, met up with Theresa and Anna outside a nearby church to take some stealthy photos for my project (the one due tuesday). Narrowly avoided being yelled at by a bow-tied man in a pink oxford.
  • Finished up some work in the jewelry lab; ran into La-Neka; literally polished away one of my fingerprints (it hurt).
