Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (Thanksgiving edition)

  • Had thanksgiving lunch with a giant group of friends at the CCAD Family Thanksgiving feast. My favorite lunch of the whole year.
  • Worked all alone during my break on monday afternoon. Had a last-minute burst of inspiration for my ad final (due tuesday morning). Redid a large chunk of it!
  • Had a very fun time in my tuesday ad class. Turned in my finals, gave a little presentation, and relaxed.
  • Had an equally-nice time turning in homework for my copywriting class. It was very laid-back.
  • Went to another job interview, this time on the 31st floor of a downtown high-rise.
  • Did a ton of wonderful things (sewing, knitting, working, playing accordion) over Thanksgiving break. And not a lot of homework.

Something else that I did this week: introduced two of my favorite teachers to one another. Mr. Burleigh unexpectedly came into my jewelry class on thursday to deliver something to me and got to meet my super-cool jewelry teacher, Chris Hill. This blurry photograph is proof of these two worlds colliding. (It is also proof of how much Amanda and I enjoyed this red-letter experience.)

What I did this week (16 nov 2012)

  • Discussed Incognegro in my comic book class. I thought it was atrocious and I told my teacher so. Understandably, this made for a slightly uncomfortable class period.
  • Got out of marketing after only 45 minutes. Ready to be done with that class for good.
  • Started working on a new project for my ad class while simultaneously continuing on the old one, which I’m doing on WD-40 and which I am pretty bored of.
  • Turned in some of my worst copywriting homework ever: ads employing verbal metaphor. Mr. Felton graded it generously and wrote “you’ll live to fight another day”.
  • Made a bunch of jump rings in jewelry. I’m making good progress on a necklace project.
  • Finished making a handful of extra-special bow ties to sell at a pop-up store later this semester. At a meeting on wednesday night, Mr. Mohr bought one of my ties right then and there. Pretty great!
  • Worked off-and-on all week on this darn WD-40 project. Finals are due next tuesday.
  • Had a really really fun time in copywriting on thursday making up “testimonial” ads in class.
  • Left jewelry really early to go on a road trip to Detroit to see the Magnetic Fields. (More on that later.)
  • Followed up on my Internship Fair leads and had an interview on friday. KILLED IT.
